Choosing a program

What evidence-based wellbeing programs are there for primary schools?

An evidence-based wellbeing program is one that has been tested and shown to support students, ideally through independent research. Growing With Gratitude is grounded in positive psychology and has been evaluated in a cluster randomised controlled trial in Australian primary schools.

How to check a program's evidence

  • Look for independent evaluation, not only testimonials.
  • Check national and state directories. ACER's Wellbeing Program Guide catalogues programs for Australian schools and is a good starting point.
  • Check your state's approved lists, such as the Victorian Schools Mental Health Menu.
  • Ask what the program is built on. GWG is a universal prevention program based on positive psychology, teaching habits students practise every day.
